EMERGENCY CARE

EMERGENCY CARE

Emergency care is a 365, 24/7 job.

Considering my location (far south Huon Valley) we really struggle to find carers who can take animals. So if I get a notification for an animal in my area, I simply take him in and assess, rehydrate & feed until we can find a permanent carer - someone who will pair the critter up with others of his kind, and look after him until he's ready to be released.

I also do call outs (sometimes in the middle of the night) for creatures that have been injured and need holding until the next day or until a vet can see them for further treatment.

Sometimes, the hardest call of all is made. The animal is beyond help and is suffering tremendously. This is when I will end the suffering and put that animal to sleep.

This is quite a traumatic experience, so as you can imagine, it's my least favourite job. It's quite ironic really, that as a wildlife carer & lover, we are the ones that will often end their lives and take away their pain.

Adoption or sponsorship helps pay for fuel for those late night call outs or the food and comforts for injured animals in my care for a short time, I also use the money to help finish my projects during my yearly downtime. This means making feeding teats for my future critters & other carers, finishing my enclosures & stocking up on all my next seasons supplies.
